What is this blog about ?

Happy New Year !! I’m now happily back from a great vacation – ready to get cracking !

What is this blog about ? As you might guess – the subject is cooking, 12 months of it. My goal for this year is to cook each month’s cover-recipe from Bon Appétit magazine and blog about it. I’ll start with the January “best of the year” issue, and work my way towards the terrifying December desserts cover ( last December’s white chocolate tiramisu trifle was truly terrifying). I won’t guarantee that I’ll stick to a monthly cadence, or even do the recipes in sequence but my goal is to have cooked all 12 cover recipes and written about it by the end of 2008.

Obvious question is “why” ? The flip answer is “because it’s there” but to be honest I’m not sure why. I enjoy cooking, I enjoy reading cooking magazines, and I thought it would be fun. When my recipes don’t work out – you’ll read about it here. I guess this is a New Year’s resolution although clearly it doesn’t fit the traditional mold of lose-weight-go-to-the-gym-organize-myself resolutions. Occaisonally I may blog about something else I cooked/ate, or even write about trying to obtain obscure ingredients.

A little more about me… I love to cook, but I don’t consider myself a professional or even a serious amateur. I hate the word “foodie” but I do love to cook/eat. I love to read bon-appetit, cooking-light, browse through cookbooks, and watching the food network. I do work for Microsoft ( currently working on Silverlight) but this isn’t a technology blog – this is a cooking blog.

Enough pre-amble. My next post will either be about January’s chocolate pudding pie – or February’s whole-wheat pancakes. Welcome to 12 months of cooking !
